Mark Pollack, M.D., Director of the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders

Dr. Pollack is Director of the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Related Disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He received his M.D. in 1982 from New Jersey Medical School, and completed residency and fellowship training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has published over 200 articles, reviews and chapters, and is co-editor of the books "Challenges in Clinical Practice: Pharmacologic and Psychosocial Strategies", "Panic Disorder and Its Treatment", and "Social Phobia: Research and Practice." Dr. Pollack serves on numerous editorial and advisory boards, as well as the Scientific Advisory Board of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and the Board of Directors of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Institute of the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Naomi Simon, M.D., M.Sc., Associate Director, Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders

Dr. Naomi Simon is Associate Director of the Anxiety Disorders Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She received her MD from Harvard Medical School in 1992 and completed her medical internship and residency in psychiatry at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital/ New York State Psychiatric Institute, where she also served as Chief Resident in psychiatry. In addition, she completed fellowship training in consultation psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and received a Masters in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Simon has served as a principal investigator on numerous studies examining the phenomenology and treatment of panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.  Dr Simon is co-editor of a 2-part series updating anxiety disorders research and practice in Psychiatric Annals, co-editor of a book on Social Anxiety Disorder, and authored a critical review of treatment refractory panic disorder for Psychiatric Clinics. She has also authored or co-authored multiple book chapters and reviews, as well as a number of original research papers appearing in peer-reviewed journals.




 
Our Mission Statement
 
The Mission of the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders at MGH is to conduct state-of-the-art research aimed at improving the standard of care for people suffering from anxiety disorders.

The Center is investigating the efficacy of treatments for Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Complicated Grief, while seeking to learn more about the underlying causes and course of Anxiety Disorders. The CATSD is now considered one of the leading centers for the study of Anxiety Disorders worldwide.

The CATSD has trained a number of outstanding clinical investigators in Anxiety Disorders, who have been very successful in obtaining grant support from both government and private sources. Members of the CATSD have published over 300 original articles in refereed journals, and are currently conducting over 20 research projects.
